Latvia registered 5 815 passenger cars in May 2025: 2 199 new cars (37.8% of the total) and 3 616 used imports. That is up 1.6% on April 2025 and up 8.3% on May 2024. Year to date the market stands at 25 166 registrations, up 8.1% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 58.3% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 841 registrations and a 14.5% share, ahead of BMW (698) and TOYOTA (553). Together the top three brands took 36.0% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TOYOTA grew fastest year on year (+62.6%) while VOLVO fell furthest (โˆ’18.6%). The best-selling model was the BMW 3 SERIES with 188 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (164) and the VOLVO XC60 (143). The 3 SERIES arrived mainly as a used import: 188 used against 0 new.

Battery-electric cars took 7.3% of all registrations, compared with 4.2% in May 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 6.5%, diesel 44.5% and petrol 40.4%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 78 battery-electric registrations, ahead of AUDI (49). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 40 registrations, ahead of the AUDI E-TRON (33). Used imports were on average 11.7 years old when they were registered.

May 2025 was the strongest of the 22 months on this page, which average 4 898 registrations a month; the weakest was January 2024 with 3 738.
