Ireland registered 8 894 passenger cars in October 2023: 4 587 new cars (51.6% of the total) and 4 307 used imports. That is down 20.0% on September 2023 and up 6.8% on October 2022. Year to date the market stands at 155 967 registrations, up 13.0% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 1 396 registrations and a 15.7% share, ahead of TOYOTA (731) and BMW (674). Together the top three brands took 31.5% of the market. The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN T-ROC with 129 registrations, followed by the TOYOTA COROLLA (113) and the MG MG4 (104).

Battery-electric cars took 15.0% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 25.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 9.6%, other hybrids 11.9%, diesel 26.1% and petrol 37.4%.
