Ireland registered 25 461 passenger cars in January 2024: 20 861 new cars (81.9% of the total) and 4 600 used imports. That is up 422.3% on December 2023 and up 26.4% on January 2023. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 25 461, up 26.4% on January last year.

TOYOTA led the brand ranking with 4 513 registrations and a 17.7% share, ahead of HYUNDAI (2 782) and VOLKSWAGEN (2 355). Together the top three brands took 37.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, PEUGEOT grew fastest year on year (+84.7%) while FORD fell furthest (โˆ’7.2%). The best-selling model was the HYUNDAI TUCSON with 1 295 registrations, followed by the TOYOTA COROLLA (1 111) and the TOYOTA YARIS CROSS (938).

Battery-electric cars took 11.7% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 13.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 8.7%, other hybrids 25.6%, diesel 22.0% and petrol 32.0%. The leading electric brand was HYUNDAI with 546 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (398). The best-selling battery-electric model was the HYUNDAI KONA with 320 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (215).

January 2024 was the strongest of the 5 months on this page, which average 11 461 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 4 875.
