Ireland registered 18 973 passenger cars in February 2024: 13 979 new cars (73.7% of the total) and 4 994 used imports. That is down 25.5% on January 2024 and up 9.9% on February 2023. Year to date the market stands at 44 434 registrations, up 18.7% on the same period of last year.

TOYOTA led the brand ranking with 2 618 registrations and a 13.8% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 312) and SKODA (1 472). Together the top three brands took 33.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SKODA grew fastest year on year (+51.9%) while HYUNDAI fell furthest (โˆ’26.2%). The best-selling model was the TOYOTA COROLLA with 708 registrations, followed by the HYUNDAI TUCSON (658) and the TOYOTA RAV4 (550).

Battery-electric cars took 11.6% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 14.8%. Plug-in hybrids took 10.0%, other hybrids 19.9%, diesel 25.4% and petrol 33.0%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 286 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (270). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 223 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (156).

February 2024 was the 2nd-highest of the 6 months on this page, which average 12 713 registrations a month; the peak was January 2024 with 25 461 and the low December 2023 with 4 875.
