Ireland registered 20 196 passenger cars in March 2024: 14 916 new cars (73.9% of the total) and 5 280 used imports. That is up 6.4% on February 2024 and down 0.6% on March 2023. Year to date the market stands at 64 630 registrations, up 12.0% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 2 906 registrations and a 14.4% share, ahead of TOYOTA (2 305) and SKODA (2 067). Together the top three brands took 36.0% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, MERCEDES-BENZ grew fastest year on year (+37.0%) while FORD fell furthest (โˆ’30.2%). The best-selling model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 901 registrations, followed by the TOYOTA YARIS (519) and the KIA SPORTAGE (486).

Battery-electric cars took 10.0% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 12.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 9.1%, other hybrids 17.8%, diesel 25.3% and petrol 37.9%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 423 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BYD (154). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 234 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL 3 (189).

March 2024 was the 2nd-highest of the 7 months on this page, which average 13 782 registrations a month; the peak was January 2024 with 25 461 and the low December 2023 with 4 875.
