Ireland registered 17 808 passenger cars in April 2024: 12 409 new cars (69.7% of the total) and 5 399 used imports. That is down 11.8% on March 2024 and up 15.5% on April 2023. Year to date the market stands at 82 438 registrations, up 12.7% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 2 429 registrations and a 13.6% share, ahead of TOYOTA (1 899) and SKODA (1 709). Together the top three brands took 33.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, HYUNDAI grew fastest year on year (+51.7%) while PEUGEOT fell furthest (โˆ’11.4%). The best-selling model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 744 registrations, followed by the TOYOTA COROLLA (515) and the HYUNDAI TUCSON (460).

Battery-electric cars took 8.9% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 11.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 9.8%, other hybrids 16.1%, diesel 25.4% and petrol 39.8%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 245 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BYD (162). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 with 134 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (93).

April 2024 was the 4th-highest of the 8 months on this page, which average 14 286 registrations a month; the peak was January 2024 with 25 461 and the low December 2023 with 4 875.
