Ireland registered 24 172 passenger cars in July 2024: 18 512 new cars (76.6% of the total) and 5 660 used imports. That is up 177.0% on June 2024 and up 7.7% on July 2023. Year to date the market stands at 130 984 registrations, up 9.1% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 3 644 registrations and a 15.1% share, ahead of TOYOTA (2 997) and HYUNDAI (2 277). Together the top three brands took 36.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, MERCEDES-BENZ grew fastest year on year (+49.0%) while TOYOTA fell furthest (โˆ’12.0%). The best-selling model was the HYUNDAI TUCSON with 971 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (626) and the TOYOTA RAV4 (570).

Battery-electric cars took 10.6% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 13.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 11.0%, other hybrids 20.5%, diesel 23.3% and petrol 34.5%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 395 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (256). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 with 338 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (190).

July 2024 was the 2nd-highest of the 11 months on this page, which average 14 803 registrations a month; the peak was January 2024 with 25 461 and the low December 2023 with 4 875.
