Ireland registered 11 503 passenger cars in September 2024: 6 110 new cars (53.1% of the total) and 5 393 used imports. That is down 21.7% on August 2024 and up 3.5% on September 2023. Year to date the market stands at 157 175 registrations, up 6.9% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 1 846 registrations and a 16.1% share, ahead of TOYOTA (1 163) and AUDI (1 041). Together the top three brands took 35.2% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, AUDI grew fastest year on year (+43.8%) while HYUNDAI fell furthest (โˆ’9.2%). The best-selling model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 244 registrations, followed by the SKODA KODIAQ (230) and the TOYOTA COROLLA (215).

Battery-electric cars took 11.2% of all registrations, compared with 15.1% in September 2023. Among new cars alone the electric share was 18.4%. Plug-in hybrids took 12.0%, other hybrids 16.8%, diesel 25.4% and petrol 34.6%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 279 battery-electric registrations, ahead of KIA (121). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 205 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (94).

September 2024 was the 8th-highest of the 13 months on this page, which average 14 540 registrations a month; the peak was January 2024 with 25 461 and the low December 2023 with 4 875.
