Ireland registered 9 448 passenger cars in October 2024: 3 994 new cars (42.3% of the total) and 5 454 used imports. That is down 17.9% on September 2024 and up 6.2% on October 2023. Year to date the market stands at 166 623 registrations, up 6.8% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 1 673 registrations and a 17.7% share, ahead of TOYOTA (943) and AUDI (900). Together the top three brands took 37.2% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, AUDI grew fastest year on year (+38.5%) while FORD fell furthest (โˆ’11.8%). The best-selling model was the TOYOTA COROLLA with 145 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (145) and the TOYOTA YARIS CROSS (140).

Battery-electric cars took 9.5% of all registrations, compared with 15.0% in October 2023. Among new cars alone the electric share was 18.8%. Plug-in hybrids took 12.8%, other hybrids 15.6%, diesel 25.4% and petrol 36.7%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 104 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (90). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 with 57 registrations, ahead of the NISSAN LEAF (53).

October 2024 was the 10th-highest of the 14 months on this page, which average 14 176 registrations a month; the peak was January 2024 with 25 461 and the low December 2023 with 4 875.
