Ireland registered 27 311 passenger cars in January 2025: 22 484 new cars (82.3% of the total) and 4 827 used imports. That is up 475.0% on December 2024 and up 7.3% on January 2024. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 27 311, up 7.3% on January last year.

TOYOTA led the brand ranking with 4 199 registrations and a 15.4% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 928) and HYUNDAI (2 793). Together the top three brands took 36.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLKSWAGEN grew fastest year on year (+24.3%) while TOYOTA fell furthest (โˆ’7.0%). The best-selling model was the HYUNDAI TUCSON with 1 216 registrations, followed by the TOYOTA YARIS CROSS (894) and the KIA SPORTAGE (705).

Battery-electric cars took 12.9% of all registrations, compared with 11.7% in January 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 15.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 14.7%, other hybrids 24.9%, diesel 18.2% and petrol 29.3%. The leading electric brand was KIA with 508 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (486). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 with 340 registrations, ahead of the KIA EV3 (238).

January 2025 was the strongest of the 17 months on this page, which average 13 981 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2024 with 4 750.
