Ireland registered 13 493 passenger cars in September 2025: 6 723 new cars (49.8% of the total) and 6 770 used imports. That is down 12.4% on August 2025 and up 17.3% on September 2024. Year to date the market stands at 166 747 registrations, up 6.1% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 2 399 registrations and a 17.8% share, ahead of TOYOTA (1 295) and AUDI (1 227). Together the top three brands took 36.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, BMW grew fastest year on year (+43.9%) while KIA fell furthest (โˆ’12.1%). The best-selling model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 238 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL 3 (216) and the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (190).

Battery-electric cars took 18.0% of all registrations, compared with 11.2% in September 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 29.7%. Plug-in hybrids took 15.0%, other hybrids 15.6%, diesel 20.3% and petrol 31.1%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 366 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (306). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 216 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (190).

September 2025 was the 15th-highest of the 25 months on this page, which average 15 085 registrations a month; the peak was January 2025 with 27 311 and the low December 2024 with 4 750.
