Ireland registered 6 346 passenger cars in December 2025: 838 new cars (13.2% of the total) and 5 508 used imports. That is down 23.7% on November 2025 and up 33.6% on December 2024. Year to date the market stands at 192 401 registrations, up 7.8% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 1 254 registrations and a 19.8% share, ahead of BMW (762) and AUDI (749). Together the top three brands took 43.6% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TOYOTA grew fastest year on year (+82.5%) while TESLA fell furthest (โˆ’26.2%). The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 92 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL Y (83) and the VOLKSWAGEN T-ROC (28).

Battery-electric cars took 10.0% of all registrations, compared with 11.0% in December 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 31.5%. Plug-in hybrids took 16.2%, other hybrids 14.3%, diesel 23.1% and petrol 36.4%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 175 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BYD (11). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 92 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (83).

December 2025 was the 26th-highest of the 28 months on this page, which average 14 385 registrations a month; the peak was January 2025 with 27 311 and the low December 2024 with 4 750.
