Ireland registered 28 830 passenger cars in July 2026: 20 322 new cars (70.5% of the total) and 8 508 used imports. That is up 124.6% on June 2026 and up 8.5% on July 2025. Year to date the market stands at 155 569 registrations, up 12.9% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 4 164 registrations and a 14.4% share, ahead of TOYOTA (4 086) and SKODA (2 100). Together the top three brands took 35.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, BYD grew fastest year on year (+118.5%) while HYUNDAI fell furthest (โˆ’9.0%). The best-selling model was the TOYOTA C-HR with 543 registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (537) and the HYUNDAI KONA (530).

Battery-electric cars took 28.5% of all registrations, compared with 16.5% in July 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 35.5%. Plug-in hybrids took 13.9%, other hybrids 21.3%, diesel 13.3% and petrol 23.1%. The leading electric brand was HYUNDAI with 907 battery-electric registrations, ahead of KIA (883). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 with 464 registrations, ahead of the HYUNDAI INSTER (279).

July 2026 was the 2nd-highest of the 35 months on this page, which average 15 952 registrations a month; the peak was January 2026 with 31 259 and the low December 2024 with 4 750.
