The Netherlands registered 51 997 passenger cars in February 2025: 27 558 new cars (53.0% of the total) and 24 439 used imports. That is down 9.5% on January 2025 and up 0.6% on February 2024. Year to date the market stands at 109 453 registrations, up 1.5% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 4 813 registrations and a 9.3% share, ahead of KIA (4 232) and TOYOTA (3 586). Together the top three brands took 24.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, FORD grew fastest year on year (+34.9%) while VOLVO fell furthest (โˆ’22.4%). The best-selling model was the KIA EV3 with 1 227 registrations, followed by the FORD KUGA (1 083) and the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (921).

Battery-electric cars took 21.3% of all registrations, compared with 17.9% in February 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 36.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 21.9%, other hybrids 22.8%, diesel 2.9% and petrol 30.9%. The leading electric brand was KIA with 1 648 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (1 086). The best-selling battery-electric model was the KIA EV3 with 1 227 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (576). New cars averaged 68.7 g/km of COโ‚‚ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 5.6 years old when they were registered.

February 2025 was the 9th-highest of the 18 months on this page, which average 53 479 registrations a month; the peak was March 2024 with 61 125 and the low December 2023 with 45 733.

Counts are cars first registered in the Netherlands in the month, measured on the RDW register snapshot taken a few days after the month ended and frozen there, so a month never changes once published. Cars exported later stay in the register for two years and only scrapped cars vanish: measured against CBS, a 36-month window loses at most 1.4 % (2025 100.6 %, 2024 99.6 %, 2023 98.6 %, 2022 97.6 % of the official new-car counts). Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
