The Netherlands registered 48 293 passenger cars in October 2023: 27 844 new cars (57.7% of the total) and 20 449 used imports. That is down 2.1% on September 2023 and up 3.9% on October 2022. Year to date the market stands at 513 205 registrations, up 15.3% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 6 283 registrations and a 13.0% share, ahead of KIA (3 616) and TOYOTA (3 225). Together the top three brands took 27.2% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SKODA grew fastest year on year (+36.3%) while TOYOTA fell furthest (โˆ’21.8%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN POLO with 1 348 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (1 082) and the KIA PICANTO (1 067).

Battery-electric cars took 19.8% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 29.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 15.1%, other hybrids 21.8%, diesel 3.3% and petrol 39.8%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 177 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 036). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO XC40 with 721 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (671). New cars averaged 82.9 g/km of COโ‚‚ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 5.7 years old when they were registered.

Counts are cars first registered in the Netherlands in the month, measured on the RDW register snapshot taken a few days after the month ended and frozen there, so a month never changes once published. Cars exported later stay in the register for two years and only scrapped cars vanish: measured against CBS, a 36-month window loses at most 1.4 % (2025 100.6 %, 2024 99.6 %, 2023 98.6 %, 2022 97.6 % of the official new-car counts). Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
