The Netherlands registered 54 432 passenger cars in February 2026: 22 040 new cars (40.5% of the total) and 32 392 used imports. That is down 14.3% on January 2026 and up 4.7% on February 2025. Year to date the market stands at 117 964 registrations, up 7.8% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 5 980 registrations and a 11.0% share, ahead of TOYOTA (3 973) and KIA (3 500). Together the top three brands took 24.7% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLKSWAGEN grew fastest year on year (+24.2%) while KIA fell furthest (โˆ’17.3%). The best-selling model was the FORD KUGA with 1 221 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (1 007) and the TOYOTA AYGO X (988). The KUGA arrived mainly as a used import: 784 used against 437 new.

Battery-electric cars took 15.4% of all registrations, compared with 21.3% in February 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 30.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 29.5%, other hybrids 24.3%, diesel 2.9% and petrol 27.8%. The leading electric brand was KIA with 906 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (670). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 403 registrations, ahead of the KIA EV3 (348). New cars averaged 70.2 g/km of COโ‚‚ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 5.2 years old when they were registered.

February 2026 was the 17th-highest of the 30 months on this page, which average 55 581 registrations a month; the peak was December 2025 with 72 636 and the low December 2023 with 45 733.

Counts are cars first registered in the Netherlands in the month, measured on the RDW register snapshot taken a few days after the month ended and frozen there, so a month never changes once published. Cars exported later stay in the register for two years and only scrapped cars vanish: measured against CBS, a 36-month window loses at most 1.4 % (2025 100.6 %, 2024 99.6 %, 2023 98.6 %, 2022 97.6 % of the official new-car counts). Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
