The Netherlands registered 56 431 passenger cars in July 2026: 27 682 new cars (49.1% of the total) and 28 749 used imports. That is down 14.5% on June 2026 and down 1.3% on July 2025. Year to date the market stands at 413 743 registrations, up 5.1% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 6 096 registrations and a 10.8% share, ahead of KIA (3 999) and TOYOTA (3 902). Together the top three brands took 24.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, RENAULT grew fastest year on year (+16.5%) while SKODA fell furthest (โˆ’15.1%). The best-selling model was the FORD KUGA with 1 140 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (915) and the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (857). The KUGA arrived mainly as a used import: 690 used against 450 new.

Battery-electric cars took 29.2% of all registrations, compared with 18.3% in July 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 47.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 26.5%, other hybrids 20.3%, diesel 2.3% and petrol 21.7%. The leading electric brand was KIA with 1 797 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 227). The best-selling battery-electric model was the SKODA ELROQ with 687 registrations, ahead of the KIA EV3 (638). New cars averaged 47.0 g/km of COโ‚‚ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 5.8 years old when they were registered.

July 2026 was the 19th-highest of the 35 months on this page, which average 56 092 registrations a month; the peak was December 2025 with 72 636 and the low December 2023 with 45 733.

Counts are cars first registered in the Netherlands in the month, measured on the RDW register snapshot taken a few days after the month ended and frozen there, so a month never changes once published. Cars exported later stay in the register for two years and only scrapped cars vanish: measured against CBS, a 36-month window loses at most 1.4 % (2025 100.6 %, 2024 99.6 %, 2023 98.6 %, 2022 97.6 % of the official new-car counts). Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
