The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) publishes monthly new-registration statistics for Germany around the 10th of the following month. This site uses three of them:
- New passenger cars by make and model series, with diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, all-wheel-drive and cabriolet counts, month and year to date.
- New passenger cars by segment and model series, with the commercial-holder share.
- Drive types by month, holder group, make, segment and federal state.
Latest tables published: 2026-09-07. Latest month: 2026-08. Data from January 2022 onwards.
What is counted
- New registrations of passenger cars (category M1) in Germany, exactly as the KBA reports them. There is no per-vehicle register, so there are no used-import, origin-country or import-age views for Germany.
- Make and model series names are the KBA's own. The KBA sometimes merges series (for example "GLK, GLC") or moves a series between segments (the Dacia Sandero moved from compact to small cars in January 2026); such changes show up as jumps in month-over-month and year-over-year figures.
- Rows the KBA reports as "Sonstige" (other models of a make, other makes, other segments, other states) are shown as OTHER and never ranked.
- Fuel mix: diesel is the FZ 10 "mit Dieselantrieb" count, which the KBA already reports without diesel hybrids (it equals the diesel figure in the KBA press releases). Petrol is derived as the total minus the FZ 28 alternative-drive total (battery-electric, fuel-cell, plug-in, other hybrids, gas and hydrogen) minus diesel, so it also absorbs the KBA's tiny "other drive" residual of a few dozen cars a month. Hybrid means non-plug-in hybrids, including mild hybrids; the KBA press releases quote hybrids including plug-ins, which is the hybrid and PHEV shares here added together. The hydrogen bar adds fuel-cell cars and hydrogen-combustion cars, two separate KBA columns.
- Holder groups follow FZ 28.3: private, commercial, and within commercial the dealers, manufacturers and rental/car-sharing fleets. Since January 2025 vehicle repair businesses are no longer counted as dealers.
- Month-over-month, year-over-year, year-to-date change and rank change are computed from our own archive of the monthly tables and shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations (10 in the electric tables).
