The United Kingdom recorded 514 864 first registrations of cars in Q3 2023, used imports included. That is up 10.9% on Q2 2023 and up 23.3% on Q3 2022. Year to date the market stands at 1 482 297 registrations, up 19.8% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 45 419 registrations and a 8.8% share, ahead of FORD (39 691) and AUDI (36 539). Together the top three brands took 23.6% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VAUXHALL grew fastest year on year (+45.2%) while HYUNDAI fell furthest (−1.0%). The best-selling model was the FORD PUMA with 14 548 registrations, followed by the NISSAN QASHQAI (12 610) and the TOYOTA YARIS (10 143).

Battery-electric cars took 16.6% of all registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 7.2%, other hybrids 26.0%, diesel 6.1% and petrol 44.0%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 13 597 battery-electric registrations, ahead of MG (8 906). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 8 626 registrations, ahead of the MG MG4 (6 235).
