The United Kingdom recorded 449 598 first registrations of cars in Q4 2024, used imports included. That is down 13.4% on Q3 2024 and down 3.0% on Q4 2023. Year to date the market stands at 2 000 106 registrations, up 2.8% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 39 395 registrations and a 8.8% share, ahead of BMW (29 026) and TOYOTA (25 520). Together the top three brands took 20.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SKODA grew fastest year on year (+21.8%) while AUDI fell furthest (−27.0%). The best-selling model was the MINI MINI with 11 185 registrations, followed by the KIA SPORTAGE (9 577) and the NISSAN QASHQAI (9 500).

Battery-electric cars took 24.9% of all registrations, compared with 16.4% in Q4 2023. Plug-in hybrids took 9.4%, other hybrids 29.6%, diesel 5.3% and petrol 30.8%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 14 190 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (8 806). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 9 371 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL 3 (4 809).

Q4 2024 was the weakest of the 7 quarters on this page, which average 491 846 registrations a quarter; the strongest was Q1 2024 with 558 825.
